Behaviour policy

Epinay Business & Enterprise School is a Co-operative Trust School which caters for children and young people from 4–19 years of age with a wide range of special educational and complex needs. These include provision for children and young people with moderate learning difficulties, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and some children with severe learning difficulties.

Many children have identified additional needs such as ADHD, ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), speech and language difficulties, specific learning difficulties (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia). The school also caters for children and young people who have identified chromosomal and clinical conditions such as Downs Syndrome, Timothy Syndrome and Neurofibromatosis.

Given the range of needs every child has an individual education plan (IEP) and some may need a personalised timetable. The school has close links with other professionals, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Community Nurses, Sexual Health Workers, Paediatricians, Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists and Youth Support Workers. Where appropriate and necessary other professionals may be involved.

As pupils get older, young people with anxieties and vulnerabilities are supported through working with other professionals and working through the school’s strong emphasis on a supportive ethos and nurturing environment as well as the use of assertive discipline (where pupils with behavioural difficulties learn rewards and consequences of their behaviour in a supportive and calm way).

Epinay Business and Enterprise seeks to promote behaviour based on mutual respect between all members of the school community. Epinay views itself in the more broad perspective as a learning and supportive environment. All pupils are either statemented or going through the statementing process.
